About the role
The purpose of this classification is to manage and supervise various activities of the Office of the Board of Tax Assessors to include customer service, legal/regulatory compliance, exemption processing, collection of taxes, and financial record keeping. Provides direct supervision to assigned subordinate staff. Will be directly responsible for the activities of the tax division upon assignment.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, develops and manages work schedules; counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and selects new employees; oversees or coordinates training activities; conducts staff meetings; schedules vacation and leave time.
- Covers daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
- Interprets, explains, and ensures departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
- Consults with Chief Appraiser, Board of Commissioners, auditors, and other officials to review department operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations.
Qualifications
- Performs other related duties as required.
- High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) or more years previous experience and/or training that includes local tax administration, tax collections, tax laws, budget administration, management, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must be or have the ability to become a Notary Public.
