About the role
EHTC is seeking a Tax Manager to join our Tax Practice. This role is responsible for managing tax compliance, planning, consulting, and advisory engagements for closely held businesses and their owners. The Tax Manager serves as a trusted advisor to clients while overseeing engagement execution, client service delivery, and team development.
Responsibilities
- Manage tax compliance, planning, and consulting engagements for closely held businesses and their owners, including corporate, partnership, S corporation, trust, and individual tax matters.
- Review tax returns, workpapers, and related deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with professional standards.
- Lead multiple client engagements simultaneously while balancing deadlines, budgets, and client expectations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary relationship manager for clients, delivering responsive service and practical tax guidance.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and provide recommendations that support clients' business and personal goals.
- Research complex tax matters, analyze technical issues, and develop well-supported conclusions and recommendations.
- Stay current on tax law changes and communicate the impact of legislative, regulatory, and industry developments to clients and internal teams.
- Collaborate with professionals across service lines to deliver integrated solutions that address complex client needs.
- Lead, mentor, and develop tax professionals through coaching, training, delegation, and ongoing performance feedback.
- Review staff work and provide guidance that supports technical growth and career development.
- Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention efforts within the Tax Practice.
- Contribute to practice growth through business development activities, client relationship expansion, and professional networking.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that enhance client service, engagement efficiency, and team effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Active CPA license.
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, consulting, professional services, or private industry accounting.
- Prior experience supervising, mentoring, and developing team members.
- Strong technical tax knowledge related to business entities, individual taxation, tax compliance, research, and planning.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex tax matters to clients and team members.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving closely held businesses and their owners.
- Experience managing client relationships and providing tax planning and consulting services.
- Experience with tax research databases, tax compliance software, AI tools, and document management systems.
- Familiarity with UltraTax, GoRS, CoCounsel, and other Thomson Reuters products.
