Tax Compliance
Tax Compliance ensures both that clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and that self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”). This includes applying an understanding of the client's unique set of circumstances, documentation, and/or other requirements mandated by law to prepare required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance, while keeping the client's tax and reporting burden as low as possible. Ensuring all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected and identifying and properly communicating missing items to prepare return. Utilizing Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep process. Effectively collaborating with Principals, Tax Seniors, and Associates on completion of project (follow-up with Open items list). Delivering high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services. Leading complex engagements with a team of tax professionals. Managing the engagement including billing, collections, and the budget for projects. Building and managing client relationships. Ensuring/Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
Tax Consulting
Tax Consulting assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages and mentors teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.
Education Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree, required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred
- Experience: Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience, required
- Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferred
- Prior supervisory experience required
- Licenses/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role beneficial
- Software Experience: with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferred
- Experience with tax research databases, preferred
- Experience with tax compliance process software, preferred
