About the role

As a Tax Manager – 1040, you will provide high-level reviews of tax research and tax returns for individuals, fiduciaries, and closely-held businesses. You will prepare and lead client meetings on compliance and consulting projects related to tax planning opportunities and tax implications. In this role, you will maintain relationships with a diverse client base across various industries, assist firm leadership in identifying new opportunities, and help obtain new engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the specialized needs of high-net-worth clients, including families with multigenerational wealth, entrepreneurs, and closely-held business owners.
  • Provide wealth planning advice and help clients make informed, strategic decisions regarding personal finances, business and investment needs, and family legacy.
  • Manage engagement workflow, team resources, and billing.
  • Work as part of a coordinated client service approach, collaborating with other practice units to provide industry knowledge and insight.
  • Review engagement profitability and analyze monthly billing for assigned engagements.
  • Review tax returns prepared by staff and recommend improvements for accuracy and tax savings opportunities.
  • Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues and implications.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and working knowledge of accounting and tax software.
  • Provide leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team.
  • Represent the firm and build relationships by attending fundraisers, meetings with prospects/bankers, charitable events, and professional organizations.
  • Work on internal initiatives that promote firm growth, culture, technical tax content development, and technological advances.
  • Stay informed of current and proposed tax legislation, communicate potential impacts to clients, and assist with planning.

Requirements

  • CPA, J.D., LL.M, or Master’s in Taxation.
  • Minimum of five years of public accounting experience providing tax planning services and/or preparing and reviewing client work papers and income tax returns.
  • 1040 experience is required; 1041 experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to develop business and foster client relationships.
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills.
