Tax Intern, State and Local Tax - Summer 2027 (Akron)

BDO USA · Cleveland, OH · 1 mo ago
Hybrid$40–$45/hrFull-time
We need to output HTML fragment with sections: About the role (job summary), Responsibilities (job duties), Requirements (education, qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities), maybe Benefits? The posting includes pay ranges per state; we need to include Pay section only if posting actually states them. It does state pay ranges for various locations. So we should include a Pay section with those ranges. Benefits? The posting mentions ESOP and Total Rewards benefits but not specific benefits; it's generic. The instruction: never create Benefits section unless posting actually states them. It mentions "BDO provides... ESOP... Total Rewards benefits". That's somewhat generic but it does mention benefits. However it's not a list of specific benefits; it's a description. The rule: include a section ONLY when the posting has real, specific content for it — never emit a heading followed by filler/placeholder text (e.g. "commensurate with experience", "not specified", "N/A", "varies", "TBD"). The benefits description is somewhat generic but still content. However they said "Benefits may be subject to eligibility requirements." That's still generic. I'd consider it not specific enough to warrant a Benefits section. Safer to omit Benefits. Schedule: not mentioned. So omit. We need headings: About the role (job summary), Responsibilities (job duties), Requirements (education qualifications etc), Pay (pay ranges). Possibly also "About Us"? Not required headings list includes About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. We can combine Qualifications and Skills into Requirements? The instruction: use headings for those specific headings if content exists. We have content for Education Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Could split into Requirements (education) and Skills (knowledge, skills & abilities). But we can also combine into one Requirements section. The instruction: "Prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones." So better to combine into one Requirements section covering education, qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities. So we will have:

About the role

Job summary paragraph(s).

Responsibilities

  • ... each duty as list items.

Requirements

Education: ...

  • ... skills etc.

Pay

Pay ranges by location: ...

We must preserve all substantive information. Need to include all duties listed. Let's extract duties from "Job Duties" section. List: - Tax Methodology: Applies general understanding of knowledge and application of standards to effectively and efficiently deliver quality tax services - Tax Compliance: Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”) - Participates in the preparation, filing and completion of voluntary disclosure agreements for sales and use tax, income tax and unclaimed property - Drafts tax memoranda, and other documents on various tax issues - Assists in drafting responses to notices from state taxing authorities - Prepares models for tax and unclaimed property exposure analysis - Participates in the audit defense of client returns and tax positions - Ensures all data needed to comply with filing requirements is obtained and identifies missing items needed to prepare assigned tax returns - Monitors current tax law changes and applies appropriately to the preparation of assigned tax returns - Manages collection and retention of all appropriate workpapers for assigned clients - Research: Completes basic research on federal and state tax issues - Tax Consulting: Partners with experienced SALT tax professionals to learn the basics of state tax planning - Participates in client meetings with experienced tax professionals, as appropriate - Establishes relationships with Core Tax Services and other Specialized Tax Services client service professionals - Tax Specialization: Develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation - Strategy Development: Assists in the preparation of tax presentations for client meetings - Tax-Related Software: Utilizes Caseware, Go Systems, and other tax-related software in the completion of basic tax returns with appropriate supervision, as applicable - Other duties as required - Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A (we can drop as per instruction: do not put Job ID/requisition numbers as headings — fold minor metadata into a short

or drop it. Supervisory Responsibilities N/A is minor metadata; we can drop.) Now Education Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting, Taxation, Finance or other relevant field, Juris Doctorate (J.D) program, or Master of Laws (LLM) program, required - Experience: Leadership experience, preferred - Prior internship or other work experience within an accounting setting or public accounting, preferred - Membership and participation in accounting or finance organizations at the college level, preferred - License/Certifications: N/A (drop) - Software: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Ability to follow instructions as directed - Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a team - Positive attitude and willingness to learn - Ability to research taxation topics and communicate or compose written analysis effectively - Basic knowledge of accounting and tax theory. - Seeks advice of appropriate superiors regarding issues related to compliance - Ability to prepare simple tax returns as well as drafting other tax related documents - Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. - Then list pay ranges per state. We need to include that salary determination statement maybe in Pay section. Now About Us section: we can include as part of About the role? The instruction: Use

for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). The "About Us" is not in that list but could be considered "About the role"? The job summary already includes description of BDO. The "About Us" is more generic about firm. Could be omitted or merged into About the role. Since we already have About the role covering job summary, we could add the About Us paragraph there as extra detail. But we must not repeat job title as heading. It's fine. We need to remove boilerplate: cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions. So remove Equal Opportunity Employer lines etc. Now produce HTML fragment. Let's craft:
