About the role

BDO’s Business Incentives Group (“BIG”) offers a unique internship opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of BDO’s premiere national consulting practices. As a Tax Intern in the Business Incentives Group, you will help companies and individuals identify and claim government incentives designed to promote innovation, economic growth, and job creation in the U.S., such as the Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credit. Our clients span virtually every industry, including technology, manufacturing, life sciences, healthcare, retail, consumer products, and natural resources.

You will collaborate with BDO professionals across business lines and engage with clients’ innovation leaders in tax, accounting, finance, engineering, software, manufacturing, scientific, medical, and other R&D-related departments. The role focuses on efficiently and effectively identifying, documenting, and supporting client incentives while positioning BDO as a trusted advisor. This internship also aims to develop your skills as a future trusted advisor, emphasizing technical expertise, interpersonal communication, project management, and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the execution of multiple client engagements.
  • Collaborates with BIG professionals across all aspects of the business, including innovating, developing, and implementing improved strategies and processes for services and marketing.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with BIG professionals and other BDO employees.
  • Contributes to the development of technical acumen and BIG’s market prominence.
  • Assists in business development research and identifying opportunities for new and existing clients.
  • Contributes to, supports, and enhances the culture of BIG, local offices, and BDO as a globally leading professional services firm.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program; focus in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, Communications, or Law preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word, preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and basic research skills.
  • Solid organizational skills, with the ability to meet project deadlines and focus on details.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to interact professionally with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
  • Desire to understand the purpose behind tasks and seek learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrated interest in self-study to further develop technical competency and knowledge of incentives.

Pay

Individual salaries are determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Hourly pay ranges by location:

  • California: $40.00/hr - $45.00/hr
  • Colorado: $35.00/hr - $39.00/hr
  • Illinois: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Maryland: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
  • Massachusetts: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Minnesota: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr
  • New Jersey: $38.00/hr - $42.00/hr
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Ohio: $33.00/hr - $37.00/hr
  • Virginia: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
  • Washington: $37.00/hr - $38.00/hr
  • Washington DC: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
