Tax Compliance Manager

Salary Range: $125,000 - $140,000
Position Overview
Founded in 1989, Designs for Health is a premier brand of nutritional supplements and functional foods, primarily recommended by functional medicine, chiropractic, and naturopathic professionals. The Tax Compliance Manager will lead the company’s global tax reporting, filing, and risk strategy.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and execute a multi-jurisdictional tax calendar, inclusive of filing deadlines across various tax types, to ensure timely filings, payments, and avoidance of penalties
- Act as the primary point of contact for the IRS, state tax agencies, and external CPA firms
- Cook up, extract, and analyze financial data for annual corporate income tax filings, sales and use tax filings, property tax filings, franchise tax filings, and statutory tax audits
- Continuously determine economic and physical nexus thresholds; manage Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDAs) when mitigating historic exposure and work directly with applicable tax agencies to resolve legacy tax issues
- Calculate, document, and monitor global transfer pricing methodologies to ensure compliance with arm's-length principles and international regulations
- Prepare and post all tax-related journal entries and reconcile tax liability accounts within the general ledger, ensuring appropriate classification and adequate reserves
- Identify inefficiencies and implement automated solutions to bridge ERP systems with tax compliance software
- Manage, review and periodically audit the collection, validation, and renewal of sales tax exemption and resale certificates from customers and vendors
- Perform UNICAP analysis under IRC Section 263A and assist external tax partners with R&D tax credit filing
- Be a core contributor for key assigned areas to the month end close and annual audit processes
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Competencies
- Deep understanding of multi-state sales and use tax, corporate franchise tax, UNICAP rules, and international transfer pricing basics
- Strong comprehension of U.S. GAAP
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and advanced Excel data-modeling skills
- Exceptional technical writing skills for responding to regulatory notices
- Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration abilities
- Hands-on operational proficiency with NetSuite ERP
Education And Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master of Science in Taxation (MST) strongly preferred
Minimum 3–5 years of progressive tax experience, ideally blending public accounting with corporate experience in a global manufacturing environment

This is largely a sedentary role; however, the responsibilities require the use of the hands to type and the ability to communicate, the ability to move about, and some duties may occasionally require the ability to lift to 20 lbs.
