About the role
The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as Tax Auditors. This position involves conducting field audits and fraud/tax evasion audits under the close supervision of a Supervising Tax Auditor.
Responsibilities
- Audits accounts
- Attends basic tax law and audit training classes
- Makes audit appointments
- Mets with taxpayers and their representatives
- Explains audit findings
- Assists in identifying interrelated fraud schemes
- May testify in court regarding liabilities determined
- Prepares audit reports and written correspondence to taxpayers
Requirements
This position is designated as a mobile worker position requiring the incumbent to spend the majority of their time (50% or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day. Additionally, positions within California require the incumbent to travel at least fifty percent (50%) of the time, which includes overnight travel.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and at least two years of relevant work experience. A valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. Applicants must also pass a background check and drug test.
Skills
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with taxpayers and representatives are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
