Responsibilities
- Prepare federal and Virginia state tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts
- Assist in the preparation of tax extensions, estimated payments, and tax projections
- Conduct basic tax research on Virginia and multistate issues using tools like CCH or BNA
- Support clients during IRS and Virginia Franchise Tax Board (FTB) audits or correspondence
- Maintain organized and accurate client documentation and workpapers
- Stay up to date on federal and Virginia tax law changes
- Collaborate with team members in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Utilize tax preparation software (e.g., Proconnect) to process returns
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA-eligible or actively pursuing CPA licensure in Virginia
- Understanding of federal and Virginia state tax regulations
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or 1+ year of experience in public accounting or tax preparation
- Familiarity with Virginia tax issues (FTB, CDTFA, or multistate filings)
- Experience with tax software such as Lacerte
