About the role

As a Tax Associate or Audit Associate at Baker Tilly, you will be a value architect delivering tax advisory, compliance, audit, and other assurance services to clients. This role offers upward career trajectory, flexibility in work location and schedule, and meaningful relationships with clients, teammates, and leadership. You will work with privately held and publicly traded companies at all stages of development, becoming a trusted business advisor and finding creative solutions to complex accounting and business challenges.

Responsibilities

As a Tax Associate, you will:

  • Be a trusted member of the engagement team providing tax compliance and consulting services
  • Provide tax compliance and advisory services to S-corporations, partnerships, individuals, and corporations ranging from middle market to multinational companies
  • Participate in tax research projects, draft IRS responses, and address tax authority inquiries
  • Team with leaders on special projects in corporate and flow-through taxation, such as accounting methods and ASC740
  • Develop recommendations for clients and collaborate with leadership to strategize
  • Communicate and team with specialty tax practices on complex tax matters (e.g., state and local, high net worth, international, R&D, credits and incentives)
  • Learn and grow through direct coaching, mentoring, and firm-wide learning programs
  • Utilize entrepreneurial skills to network and build relationships internally and externally
  • Build friendships and strong work relationships while gaining valuable experience

As an Audit Associate, you will:

  • Be a trusted member of the engagement team providing assurance and consulting services
  • Proactively engage with clients to gather information and respond to questions
  • Perform substantive testing on clients’ balance sheets and income statements
  • Test for deficiencies in internal controls and discuss recommendations for improvement
  • Learn and grow through direct coaching, mentoring, and firm-wide learning programs
  • Utilize entrepreneurial skills to network and build relationships internally and externally
  • Build friendships and strong work relationships while gaining valuable experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, law, or a related business degree with sufficient coursework to sit for the CPA and/or Bar exam
  • Outstanding academic performance with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Relevant internship, work experience, or involvement with a professional organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with all levels of client personnel
  • Demonstrated skills in time management, communication, interpersonal relationships, collaboration, and problem-solving
  • Organizational and analytical skills, initiative, and adaptability
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must be a current Summer 2026 Baker Tilly Intern
  • No immigration sponsorship is available for this position

Pay

Actual compensation is influenced by skills, experience, qualifications, degrees, certifications, work arrangements, and geographic location. The pay rate ranges for this position are:

  • Washington: $63,840 to $100,550
  • California: $70,220 to $108,930
  • Denver, CO: $70,220 to $92,170
  • New York: $76,500 to $104,740
  • Chicago, IL: $70,220 to $92,170
  • Tewksbury, MA: $73,420 to $91,770
  • Minneapolis, MN: $67,030 to $87,980
  • Iselin, NJ: $73,420 to $91,770
  • Washington, DC: $76,500 to $100,550
  • National: $63,840 to $83,790
