Key Responsibilities
- Manage tax advisory engagements for closely held businesses and their owners, including tax planning, transaction structuring, due diligence, reorganizations, restructuring activities, and other strategic consulting matters.
- Identify and analyze tax risks and opportunities related to acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, and other significant business events, and develop practical recommendations for clients.
- Research complex federal and state tax matters, analyze technical issues, and develop well-supported conclusions and recommendations.
- Review tax analyses, memoranda, financial models, and other client deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with client objectives.
- Lead multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and at the highest level of quality.
- Monitor engagement performance, including workflow, staffing, utilization, realization, and billing.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and delivering proactive guidance on tax strategy, business decisions, and emerging risks.
- Collaborate with professionals across service lines to develop integrated solutions that address complex client needs.
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop tax professionals through coaching, training, delegation, and performance feedback.
- Review staff work and provide guidance to support technical development and career growth.
- Contribute to the growth of the Advisory Practice by identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships, participating in business development activities, and maintaining professional networks.
- Recommend process improvements and innovative solutions that enhance client outcomes, team effectiveness, and overall practice performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Active CPA license.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, professional services, consulting, or a related field.
- Prior experience supervising, mentoring, and developing team members.
- Strong technical tax knowledge related to tax planning, research, structuring, and advisory services for closely held businesses and their owners.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex tax matters and prepare written tax advice.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience advising closely held businesses and their owners on complex tax planning, structuring, and transaction-related matters.
- Experience with transaction-related matters, including due diligence, acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, and restructuring activities.
- Experience managing client relationships and providing strategic tax advisory services.
- Experience with tax research databases, tax compliance software, AI tools, and document management systems.
- Familiarity with UltraTax, GoRS, CoCounsel, and other Thomson Reuters products.
