Target Security Specialist

About the role

Target Security Specialists play a crucial role in keeping guests and team members safe and secure. They are part of Assets Protection teams that mitigate shortage risks, prevent and resolve theft and fraud, and build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials.

Responsibilities

• Create an Easy, Inspiring and Friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find items, and ensuring smooth transactions.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Respond to and document security incidents in a timely manner.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks and recognize and communicate trends.
• Understand and appropriately use Target's video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed.
• Work both independently and with a team.
• Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.

Qualifications

• Must be able to climb up and down ladders.
• Must be capable of apprehending subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Must be able to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
• Must be flexible to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
• Must be able to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties.
• Must be able to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

• Using intelligence-led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure.
• Crisis response, safety, and crowd management.
• De-escalation and experience with physical security controls and culture.
• Using Target's video surveillance system.
• Timely and accurate documentation of cases using case management systems.
• Understanding and appropriately using Target's video surveillance system.
• Appropriate response to guest issues to provide a safe and secure environment.
• Leverage de-escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support.
• Prevent theft and shortage at the front of store by performing merchandise receipt checks.
• Submit appropriate documentation in the case management system for all incidents following AP policy and procedures.
