Talent Bridge - ATR Experiment System Engineer

About the Role

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Experiment System Engineer to support the development of advanced nuclear energy systems and experimental infrastructure critical to the nation’s energy future. This role involves collaborating with project teams to define system requirements, ensure design solutions meet applicable codes and standards, and serve as a design engineer when needed. You will evaluate, design, maintain, modify, install, and test experiment systems.

Responsibilities

• As a member of the project team tasked with developing a new experiment gas lead out system, communicate system requirements to the design engineering team.
• Ensure codes and standards compliance during project development.
• Function as a design engineer when required by the Experiment Design team.
• Evaluate, design, maintain, modify, install, and test experiment and process support systems to ensure continued operational readiness.
• Initiate corrective actions.
• Develop and write procedures for the modification and/or operation of facilities, equipment, and processes.
• Support work order development for installation and repair of experiment system equipment.
• Examine accidents to obtain data for designing preventive measures.
• Support/coordinate operations and maintenance activities to ensure efficiency and conformity to safety standards.
• Develop and maintain configuration management and the technical baseline of multiple systems and component groups.
• Ensure engineering design and modifications are performed in accordance with INL procedures and ATR/experiment schedules.
• Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure systems and equipment meet operational and research needs.

Requirements

• Recent graduate (within the past 12 months) with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, nuclear, or electrical (I&C) engineering, or a directly related field from a program accredited by ABET.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Strong technical skills in mechanical engineering, including design, modeling, and problem-solving.
• Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements.
• This is a multi-level posting; placement will depend on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
• This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout employment.

Schedule

This role follows a 4x10 schedule located at the ATR facility, with every Friday off.

Pay

The pay range for this position is:

• Level 1: $66,504–$90,960
• Level 2: $79,344–$108,540

Compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
