Talent Acquisition Specialist – Building Automation & Controls
Job Summary
The Talent Acquisition Specialist is a full-cycle recruiter responsible for screening, engaging, and hiring technical talent across Smart Tech Contracting’s building automation, controls, and mission-critical data center organization.
Essential Functions
Screens, evaluates, and advances high volumes of inbound applicants for Building Automation & Controls roles, including controls and systems engineers, BAS technicians and programmers, system integrators, field technicians, and project managers.
Operates and helps refine AI-enabled screening and automation workflows within the applicant tracking system (Rippling) to streamline high-volume applicant review.
Reviews applications against defined role requirements, maintaining a clean, active, and viable candidate pipeline.
Moves candidates through requisition stages accurately and quickly, ensuring complete records and accurate source-of-hire tracking.
Prepares curated candidate views for hiring managers that support quick yes-or-no decisions instead of full backend reviews.
Outbound Sourcing & Pipeline Development
Executes targeted outbound sourcing across LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, referrals, and direct outreach for assigned hard-to-fill roles.
Builds and maintains proactive talent pipelines and shared LinkedIn Recruiter projects to support current and future hiring needs.
Converts interested and passive candidates into applicants within the applicant tracking system, strengthening the directly-sourced pipeline.
Tools, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Maintains accurate candidate and requisition data in Rippling, and helps build dashboards and reporting that increase the speed and quality of hire.
Tracks pipeline health, time-to-fill, and source-of-hire, and contributes to process improvements across the talent function.
Position Requirements
3-5 years of full-cycle recruiting and / or sourcing experience; experience may come from a recruiting firm or staffing agency, a corporate (in-house) environment, or a mix of both, with agency-side experience a plus.
Recruiting or sourcing experience within building automation, controls, HVAC, mechanical / electrical, mission-critical, or data center environments strongly preferred.
Experience sourcing and assessing technical talent in engineering and field-based environments; exposure to PLC and / or SCADA professionals a strong plus. Familiarity with major BAS platforms (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, ALC) is also a plus.
AI-forward and automation-minded (strongly preferred): comfortable using AI and automation tools to improve sourcing efficiency, candidate research, and recruiting workflows.
Proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter (projects, InMail, advanced / Boolean search) and modern applicant tracking systems; Rippling experience preferred.
Proactive and self-directed, comfortable with high-volume applicant review and consistent outbound sourcing, and able to manage multiple requisitions and competing priorities independently.
Intermediate skills using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), with strong organizational and file management skills.
Ability to quickly learn technical terminology related to building automation, controls, and HVAC systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of candidate, compensation, and company information.
Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness in a distraction-free workspace.
Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced recruiting environment.
Physical Demands
Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working on a computer.
Ability to move through offices, job sites, and warehouse environments as needed.
Occasional lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds.
Education / Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, Marketing, or a related field preferred OR Equivalent professional recruiting or sourcing experience PLUS.
Minimum of 3 years of full-cycle recruiting and/or sourcing experience, with 3-5 years preferred (agency / recruiting-firm and controls / building automation industry experience highly preferred).
High-volume applicant screening experience.
LinkedIn Recruiter and ATS experience.
