Tailings Dam Operator Trainee
About the role
Performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of tailings compoundments at our Bagdad operations in Arizona. Located 100 miles northwest of Phoenix, Bagdad is home to the world's first commercial-scale concentrate leach processing facility and one of the longest continuously operating solvent extraction/electrowinning plants in the world.
Responsibilities
- Assist with and perform minor repairs on valves, spigots, and pressure systems
- Conduct drain valve replacements and plugging/patching leaks
- Perform routine inspections of dams and complete required documentation
- Maintain tailings infrastructure and equipment
- Apply knowledge of mantling/dismantling spigots on tailing lines
- Follow proper lock-out procedures for tailings line maintenance
- Control pressure of slurry into tailings dam and adjust main tailings line pressure
- Monitor and set flow rates for algae pond process
- Communicate with thickener operator on flows to tailings dam
- Learn and assist with monitoring system adjustments on tailings line
- Operate mobile equipment including bulldozers, loaders, water trucks, motor graders, boom trucks, dump trucks, light duty vehicles, fusion machines, and forklifts
- Utilize hand and power tools
- Maintain area housekeeping
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
- Three (3) months experience in an industrial environment
- Completed academic and practical competencies required (including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable)
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills
- Pass a written assessment based on skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English
- Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments, procedures, and safety standards
- Must pass a medical exam
- Must pass all required training and/or testing
- Willingness to work a non-standard schedule, including shift work at a 24/7, 365-day operation
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED (preferred)
- Construction or Carpentry background (preferred)

Pay
The estimated pay range for this role is $21.00 - $27.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
