About the organisation

Since 2005, we have been providing courses on behalf of municipalities, social organisations, and companies aimed at improving the Dutch language. Both Dutch as a first language (NT1) and Dutch as a second language (NT2). These programmes focus on raising language proficiency and improving participation in neighbourhoods, districts, or the workplace. Our goal is always to teach participants the Dutch language in a positive learning environment, opening up new opportunities and possibilities for them. We help them seize these opportunities!

This commitment, conviction, and experience have led us to develop a unique NL-approach.

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed language volunteers for our teaching location in [plaatsnaam]. With your support, you will help newcomers not only improve their Dutch language skills but also assist them in taking their first steps in Dutch society.

What do our volunteers enjoy about working at NLtraining? One of our volunteers says: “You really build a connection, and I feel happy when I see someone making progress.”

Responsibilities

  • Support participants in practising and improving their Dutch language skills in a low-threshold way.
  • Encourage participants to speak, read, write, and understand Dutch.
  • Assist with assignments and language activities.
  • Motivate participants and boost their confidence in using the Dutch language.
  • Guide individual participants or small groups during lessons.
  • Discuss the progress of participants with the teacher and project leader.

Requirements

  • No teaching experience required; enthusiasm and commitment are more important.
  • Communicate clearly and explain things simply.
  • Have patience and enjoy working with people from diverse cultures.
  • Be social, empathetic, and practical.
  • Stand firm and handle questions or challenges creatively.
  • Have at least a B2 level of Dutch (or be a native Dutch speaker).

Benefits

  • A meaningful volunteer position where your contribution truly makes a difference.
  • Guidance from a teacher, workshops, and opportunities for professional development.
  • Travel expense reimbursement through NLtraining or the volunteer organisation.
  • An informal and inspiring work environment with passionate colleagues.

If you have completed an HBO education or hold a teaching qualification, your experience as a language volunteer can count as a stepping stone toward a role as an NT2 teacher. You will gain valuable practical experience that supports further NT2 training.
