Systems Verification & Validation Engineer
About the role
Cricut is seeking a versatile Systems Verification & Validation Engineer (also known as a Firmware Test Engineer) responsible for testing and qualifying Firmware and Hardware for product releases. You will test firmware for new and existing hardware products, communicate with development teams, represent QA concerns in cross-functional meetings, and provide end-user feedback to improve the customer experience.
Our firmware is written on bare-metal STM32 microcontrollers and similar chips for consumer-grade creative cutting machines and small appliances. This role focuses on firmware verification for microcontroller-based systems, not deeper technologies like FPGAs or ASICs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute organized test plans to release high-quality products on schedule.
- Write clear, concise, and comprehensive test scenarios, test cases, and test plans.
- Execute test cases, debug and analyze results, report and track defects, and provide updates to stakeholders.
- Test firmware for new and existing hardware products, including communication with development teams.
- Represent QA concerns in cross-functional team meetings and provide valuable end-user feedback.
- Communicate project plans with contract manufacturers in Asia.
- Create procedures and provide information for recreating firmware/software bugs.
Requirements
- Experience working in a technical development team.
- Good knowledge of USB, Bluetooth Classic, BLE, and Wi-Fi communication protocols.
- Experience with microcontrollers, DC motors (steppers and servos), and motor drivers.
- Experience with sensing, sampling, and feedback control systems.
- Experience testing USB/wireless device software/apps on Windows and Mac.
- Intermediate or higher programming experience in Swift, Dart, C/C++, and Python.
- Familiarity with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Linux operating systems.
- Understanding of interactive shell languages for Windows and Mac.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing software interacting with hardware.
- Experience testing and qualifying consumer electronics products.
- Experience testing state machines.
- Experience in commercial or consumer electronics with microcontrollers.
- Background in industries such as aerospace or medical devices.

Schedule
This role is in-office five days per week. Cricut believes real collaboration, innovation, and culture thrive in a face-to-face environment.
