Systems Mechanic - Wastewater Treatment Plant

Description

The City of Round Rock is seeking a Systems Mechanic to support their Water and Wastewater Utility operations. This role involves inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing various equipment to keep systems functioning.

As a Systems Mechanic

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and replace pumps, motors, valves, controls, and generators across lift stations and distribution systems
• Work with electrical systems, including diagnosing and repairing controls up to 480 volts AC and, in some cases, high-voltage controls up to 2,400 volts
• Maintain pumps and controls in water distribution systems, including working with cranes and heavy motors
• Troubleshoot and repair pressure reducing valves (PRVs), including work in confined spaces
• Support raw water operations by maintaining pumps, valves, and long water lines
• Maintain water storage tanks, including climbing towers, performing light repairs, and assisting with upkeep
• Respond to on-call emergencies for lift stations and water distribution issues, including night and storm response
• Perform daily site inspections and document issues or repairs
• Monitor chlorine levels and supply pressure to help ensure safe drinking water

Experience and Training

• You like solving mechanical problems, working with tools and equipment, and taking on a mix of technical and physical tasks
• You’re dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in environments where both mechanical knowledge and teamwork are essential
• You enjoy working with your hands and learning new technical skills
• You understand mechanical or electrical systems and want to grow in the water/wastewater field
• You can stay calm, focused, and reliable during urgent situations or weather events
• You like working both independently and cooperatively with operators, electricians, and other technicians

Minimum Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED
• At least one (1) year of experience as a mechanic or electrician
• Systems mechanic experience preferred
• A valid Class C Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain before hire)
• Must obtain Class D Water and Wastewater Collection I OR Class D Wastewater Operator License (TCEQ) within 12 months of employment
