Systems Engineer, Senior - PR 1371

About the role

The Systems Engineer, Senior - PR 1371 supports the Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Program at Hanscom AFB, MA. The role involves applying theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering to secure and resilient communications and information systems. This includes resolving unique or novel problems, evaluating new technologies, and advocating for new standards and applications.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to extend or modify existing practices.
• Resolve unique or novel problems requiring significantly altering standard practices, equipment, devices, processes, and known techniques.
• Provide expert advice to professional colleagues and agency officials on broad program operations.
• Support digital engineering concepts and techniques throughout the program lifecycle, including MBSE.
• Evaluate the value and applicability of new or improved technology, strategies, trends, and applications.
• Investigate, predict, and anticipate issues and conditions extending beyond a single specialty area and affecting known standards, approaches, precedents, or concepts.
• Develop or collaborate in the formulation of new standards, applications, concepts, or theories.
• Advocate recommendations, strategies, and actions to reconcile or resolve novel, conflicting, or controversial issues or policies.
• Perform needs analysis to define opportunities for new or improved systems engineering programs/processes.
• Define and specify system/functional/subsystem characteristics, requirements, and specifications.
• Ensure the integration of all system components and with external systems.
• Design/perform system level tests to assure subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications.
• Analyze and/or evaluate test results of major engineering systems.
• Manage/sustain program technical baseline.
• Provide system/program engineering, technical support, and technical training to support programs/initiatives, including but not limited to acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight.
• Support program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force processes.
• Provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force processes.
• Provide analysis and recommendations to incorporate communications systems and Modular Open System Architectures (e.g. Open Mission Systems) on host platforms with an NC3 mission to enable NC3 modernization.
• Perform Information Systems Security Developer (631) and Systems Developer (632) Core/Additional Tasks and meet the KSAs as outlined in DoD Cyber Workforce Framework - DoDI 8140.01, DoDI 8140.02, and DoDM 8140.03.

Qualifications

• MA Degree and more than 10 years of related experience, OR, BA Degree and more than 15 years of experience related to the position requirements.
• Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret level.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is estimated between $125K-131K. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
