Amentum is seeking a Top-Secret cleared Systems Engineer to join a high-impact team dedicated to accelerating operations through data innovation and advanced analytical insights. This mission-driven organization leverages agile practices to deliver enhanced reporting, global search capabilities, and improved task management—supporting national intelligence priorities while ensuring the protection of sensitive data, sources, and methods.

About the role

In this role, you will help lead large-scale data analysis efforts and contribute to the design and delivery of both on-premises and cloud-based applications. As a Systems Engineer, you will provide hands-on support for daily network operations, including evaluating system utilization, monitoring performance, and serving as a primary responder for operational issues and system anomalies. You will troubleshoot across physical and logical layers of the network—working with measurement hardware, diagnostics tools, communication protocols, and system components to identify, isolate, and resolve issues.

This position also performs essential systems management and integration functions, ensuring all systems remain current with approved patches, aligned with security requirements, and optimized for mission success. Additional responsibilities include supporting certification and accreditation activities, developing SOPs and quick-reference guides, and advising leadership on technology investments related to processing, storage, data access, and application development. You will also help evaluate the feasibility of future projects, contributing technical insight that shapes long-term planning and modernization.

This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced technologies, hybrid infrastructures, and mission-critical data solutions—ideal for engineers who excel in dynamic environments and are motivated by meaningful, national-level impact.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, design, develop, and perform additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, and operating systems, including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
  • Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time, and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
  • Troubleshoot the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level using communication protocols.
  • Participate in planning, design, technical review, and implementation for new network infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks.
  • Perform systems management and integration functions, exhibiting proficiency with virtualization technologies and network administration.
  • Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP.
  • Provide technical consultation, training, and support for IT staff as designated by the government.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex communication problems.
  • Design, deploy, evaluate, test, certify, and patch systems, addressing interoperability issues for base storage, backup systems, features, components, and application dependencies.

  • Provide top-level technical expertise for design and development of a client/server environment, including developing strategy and infrastructure to support it.
  • Advise on selection of technological purchases regarding processing, data storage, data access, and applications development.
  • Set standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization.
  • Advise management on the feasibility of potential future projects.
  • Plan and lead major technology assignments, evaluating performance results and recommending changes affecting project growth and success.
  • Function as a technical expert across multiple project assignments; may supervise others.
