Systems Engineer Intern - Fall Recruitment MD/DC/VA (Remote)

About the role

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled intern to join our team starting in October 2026. This internship offers a comprehensive learning experience, covering the entire lifecycle of software methodology from requirements gathering to deployment.

Responsibilities

• Obtain a working knowledge of CareFirst HealthCare processes
• Develop and test UI applications and ad hoc reports, identifying and resolving issues
• Analyze and translate Healthcare functional specifications and change requests into test cases
• If needed, participate in production support and monitoring activities for deployed applications
• Research emerging Gen AI technologies and recommend improvements
• Support all testing efforts (integration, functional, system, performance, UAT, etc.) by attending meetings, reviewing defects, and fixing them
• Expand technical and business knowledge through reading, research, on-the-job training, and classroom sessions

Qualifications

• Must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or university as a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.25 or above
• Majors include: Information Systems, Health Information Technology, Computer-Science, or related fields
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical skills, organized, and detail-oriented
• Experience using Microsoft Office products
• Prior exposure to Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Analysis is preferred but not required
• Depending on the IT area, exposure to one or more of the following may be required: SQL, Snowflake, Java, Python, Shell scripting, REST, HTTP/SOAP, GENAI/Agentic AI, Cloud platforms like AWS/Azure/GCP

Requirements

This is a year-round internship opportunity, with commitments of up to 15-20 hours per week during the academic year (Fall/Spring) and 35-40 hours per week during the Summer. The internship will be supervised by the Manager/Supervisor.

Benefits

The salary range for this internship is $19,760 - $26,000 annually. Interns will be paid hourly.
