About the role

General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront of designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world. Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security. Quality Assurance Engineers (QAEs) specialize in improving processes and systems to ensure quality and efficiency. As Electric Boat continues to execute on our Columbia and Virginia programs, QAEs will be key contributors to their success.

This position reports to a Quality Assurance Engineering Supervisor in Groton and involves cross-functional collaboration with internal and external customers to ensure a quality product.

Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations of quality deficiencies and assist functional areas in resolving problems that may occur at any Electric Boat site, NNS, or a supplier.
  • Assess product and process performance to identify quality defects and ensure compliance with Quality Specifications.
  • Become proficient in causal analysis tools and implement systems to maintain adherence to quality standards.
  • Work with teams to achieve continuous improvement and prevent recurring quality issues.
  • Perform Pressure Hull Frame Dimension and Hull Fairness Measurement Evaluations.
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics to improve first-time quality at Electric Boat.
  • Participate in significant issue problem resolution teams, including causal analysis and preventive actions.
  • Monitor, assign, status, and resolve Customer Corrective Action Requests.
  • Administer the Quality Item Matrix (QIM) and act as a liaison to teaming partner NNS for resolution of construction issues.
  • Manage quality commitment administration, including loading and managing commitments to resolve quality issues.
  • Participate in Special Emphasis Program (SUBSAFE/DSS-SOC/FBW SCS) working groups within Electric Boat and jointly with NNS.
  • Support all quality audits (e.g., certification audits, NDT audits, NAVSEA 08 audits).
  • Directly support ship certification and module shipouts.
  • Lead improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering.
  • 1-5 years of experience in Waterfront, Quality, or Design Engineering post-graduation.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office Suite and Engineering-related software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical, Systems, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Project Management or “Systems” Engineering experience.
  • Previous certification or training in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and technical writing.
  • Knowledge of NDT and Welding processes.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience on cross-functional teams, especially those focused on problem resolution.
