Systems Engineer (Expert)
About the role
BAE Systems, a top-ten prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Defense, seeks a skilled Systems Engineer to function as a SecDevOps Release Manager. This role is critical for ensuring the technical integrity, security, and delivery of software releases.
Responsibilities
Lead and enforce rigorous code reviews and system design reviews to ensure scalability, security, and maintainability.
Define and implement coding standards and architectural patterns. Act as the final technical authority and "gatekeeper" before production deployment.
Mentor engineering teams on cloud-native design, failure modes, and secure coding practices.
Own the end-to-end release lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, risk assessment, and Go/No-Go decisions.
Engineer and manage CI/CD pipelines to support software releases while maintaining system stability.
Facilitate release planning sessions and enforce change management policies aligned with ITIL frameworks.
Lead retrospectives to capture lessons learned and track KPIs such as change failure rate and Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR).
Implement and maintain automated security tooling (SAST/DAST, vulnerability scanning) as specified by the ISSE.
Ensure all release artifacts meet the security baseline and compliance criteria (STIGs, PKI, Cloud Controls) established by the ISSE prior to deployment.
Requirements
Minimum 11 years of experience in Systems Engineering.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines.
Experience integrating diverse data streams.
Experience with data transfer tools (e.g., NiFi, Cribl).
Experience establishing data standards and acting as custodian of IT and service delivery data sets and streams.
Experience analyzing complex networks and systems.
Experience analyzing log data from various network components and operating systems.
Experience in Systems Engineering with network analyst/engineering background.
Familiarity with Splunk and scripting tools such as Python, ShellScript, or Ansible.
Experience with PKI implementation and STIG compliance and vulnerability management.
Experience with virtualization (VDI & VMWare) and public, private, and hybrid Cloud environments (AWS, Microsoft Azure, etc.).
Skills
Strong technical leadership and quality governance.
Expertise in SecDevOps and cloud security controls.
Ability to manage and troubleshoot data feeds.
Knowledge of complex environments involving shared networks and multiple security enclaves.
Proficiency in Python and other scripting languages.
Experience with automation tools and CI/CD pipelines.
Understanding of ITIL frameworks and change management policies.
Experience with automated security tooling and vulnerability management.
Knowledge of STIGs and compliance criteria.
Experience with virtualization and cloud environments.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $149603 - $254317
