SUPPORT INFRASTRUCTURE (UA-CINF-IUBLA) The Systems Engineer will serve as a member of the UITS Enterprise Microsoft Administration team at Indiana University. The Enterprise Microsoft Administration team is responsible for running centralized core infrastructure services such as Active Directory, Certificate Authority, Exchange, Teams and Microsoft 365. Enterprise Microsoft Administration services are consumed by users across all Indiana University campuses. The centralized environment consists of over 500,000 AD user accounts, 250,000 Exchange mailboxes and 20,000 Team Telephony accounts. The Enterprise Microsoft Administration team is a unit in the Enterprise Technology Support division of University Information Technology Services. Department Specific Responsibilities Actively participate in and lead project teams throughout the project management life cycle process including developing a project plan, defining project goals and objectives, specifying tasks or how goals will be achieved, what resources are needed and associating budgets and timelines for completion.Performs System Administration tasks including system and security monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, services and key processes. Use enterprise monitoring tools to review system and application logs, and address any monitoring alerts. General Responsibilities Designs, develops, and implements complicated systems that adhere to university policies and standards; evaluates, monitors, and assesses current systems to design and develop system updates/modifications and/or to resolve issues.Provides bug reporting and identification, test case authoring and refinement, scripting, and works closely with other technical teams to resolve highly complex and difficult problems.Establishes metrics and determines systems configuration to ensure optimum systems performance and security in accordance with strategy and operational goals; analyzes capacity data and develops capacity plans.Documents systems infrastructure design decisions, issues, and resolutions, as well service disaster recovery plans.Collaborates with systems professionals on other teams and across the university to analyze/evaluate new capabilities and emerging technologies that could improve university systems performance.Researches and stays abreast of current higher education systems engineering trends; stays up to date on systems engineering best practices, tools, and approaches. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. EDUCATION Required Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science or related field. Required WORK EXPERIENCE 2 years of systems engineering or related experience. Preferred 3 years of experience managing a production Windows server environment or Microsoft 365 Tenant. Preferred Experience working with virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V).Experience using PowerShell, Kusto (KQL), or equivalent scripting languages to automate tasks and integrate systems.History of participating in the design and deployment of critical IT infrastructure services.Must be able to schedule time wisely, establish priorities and adjust gracefully to a changing work environment.Experience with Project Planning and deployment of Enterprise class IT.Experience with Graph API, Microsoft 365 management interfaces.Experience with cloud computing platforms such as Azure or AWS.Knowledge of network protocols and security.Familiarity with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.Knowledge of database administration and SQL. This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. This positions requires the ability to travel to Bloomington, Indiana once or twice a year. Will be required to share on-call pager responsibilities with the rest of the team. May have to provide support during evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and/or perform system maintenance.
