Job Summary
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS supports critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We are seeking a Systems Engineer in the GA-EMS Systems Engineering department, located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical analyses and judgement, using a systems engineering approach, for the development, fabrication, testing, and integration of new or existing systems within GA-EMS.
- Cook up and interface with customers, contractors, and engineering groups assigned to projects.
- Utilize requirements management tools Cameo Systems Modeler, CATIA Magic, and/or DOORS to support requirements development/management and component specifications.
- Perform system analysis and generate system, sub-system, component, and software requirements to disseminate among hardware, firmware, and software design architects.
- Lead verification and validation efforts with analyses and coordination with Test teams for qualification testing.
- Might represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts.
- Aid in the development of program plans, estimates, and schedules. Support the development of test plans and manage the integration, verification and validation of systems through qualification testing.
- Develop technical material for design reviews, including presenting to the customer.
- Direct activities of design or technical staff and/or lead a team of junior professional staff.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree.
- May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in various engineering areas.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level, to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
- Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
- Must be able to demonstrate technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as supporting project and/or program leadership with organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
- A Professional Engineering License is desirable.
- Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance is required.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience with ALRE systems;
- Experience in the application of IEEE Standard 1233, Guide for Developing System Requirements Specifications;
- Experience in the application of IEEE Standard 15288.2, Standard for Technical Reviews and Audits on Defense Programs;
- Experience in the application of the NAVAIR Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) process per NAVAIR SETR Process Handbook.
