About the role
This is a hybrid position based in Quantico, VA. The Systems Engineer will provide technical support in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise IT systems across Windows and RHEL environments. Assists with core infrastructure services, virtualization, and VDI deployments while supporting system monitoring, security configurations, and backup operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, deployment, and maintenance of Windows and RHEL enterprise solutions/software
- Assist with monitoring and configuration of SIEM tools like Splunk
- Assist in configuring and maintaining core IT services such as DNS, DHCP, SAN, SQL Databases, Active Directory, and Group Policy
- Support VMware environment tasks, including creating and managing virtual machines
- Participate in the provisioning and deployment of workstation images in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments
- Troubleshoot basic system and application issues, escalating complex problems to senior staff
- Assist in applying security configurations and maintaining system logging
- Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups, and when necessary, perform data recovery operations
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to team discussions on solutions and improvements
- Manage time well to meet assigned milestones
- Demonstrate strong communications skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or B.A. in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or similar (preferred)
- 2+ years of experience with Splunk
- 4+ years of relevant hands-on experience in system administration in enterprise environments (e.g., Windows, RHEL, VMware)
- Minimum certification as IAT Level II per DoD 8570.01, or successor
- Strong familiarity with cybersecurity principles including ports/protocols, firewall basics, and general DoD cybersecurity awareness
- Exposure to SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, Elastic, or others), with an interest in log analysis and security monitoring
- Basic understanding of Defense Information Systems Agency published Security Technical Information Guidance (STIG) and Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) requirements and compliance processes
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test
- U.S. Citizenship; Clearance required
Schedule
This is a hybrid position reporting onsite at our VA location with potential for teleworking 1-2 days per week. Must be located within driving distance of Quantico, VA for commuting. Travel may be required to customer sites, including Charleston, SC.
Working Conditions
This role is largely sedentary.
