General Definition Of Work
Performs responsible administrative support and semiskilled work in the System Services department of the library, including courier duties, shipping and receiving, computer processing, and other operational functions.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
- Receiving and processing mail, packages and supplies; delivering mail, packages, supplies, and library materials; driving a County vehicle;
- Operating library equipment.
- Affords internal customer service while performing duties.
- Picks up, sorts and distributes mail and supplies.
- Picks up, sorts and delivers library materials between County library locations.
- Collects outgoing mail; processes, packs and delivers mail to post office or mail handler courier.
- Delivers mail and other items to municipal offices.
- Collections and delivers return mail and materials.
- Operates library software and equipment.
- Assists with the shipping and receiving of library materials.
- Picks up and delivers supplies; serves as courier between County departments and agencies.
- Prepares and maintains records and files.
- Maintains vehicle cleanliness, both interior and exterior.
- Affords general support with library materials processing.
- May assist with collection maintenance tasks, as needed.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- General knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment;
- Basic knowledge of customer service best practices;
- Intermediate technological skills;
- Thorough knowledge of regions traffic rules and regulations;
- General knowledge of business mathematics;
- Ability to make routine mathematical calculations;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Ability to safely lift and move heavy loads;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other county staff, and the general public.
Minimum Education / Experience Requirements
- Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Special Requirements
- Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
- Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy.
Physical Requirements
- This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work requires stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
- Visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;
- The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- A significant portion of work hours will be spent driving and transporting.

Required Question
- I understand that this is a temporary Time-Limited Auxiliary position with an anticipated assignment of up to three (3) months, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (up to 30 hours per week). I understand that this position does not guarantee permanent employment with Cabarrus County; however, I may apply for open positions for which I qualify during or after my temporary assignment.
