About the role
Naturally outgoing, detail-oriented, and unapologetically persistent are just a few of the words we’d use to describe the ideal Deficiency Sales Representative. People who excel in this role are often recognized for their ability to start a conversation with just about anyone and are known for never taking no for an answer. You are a proven team player who can also work independently, confident in the details while seeing the bigger picture. You’re highly organized and bring strong time management skills that allow you to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
This is not a typical inside sales role. You will be paired with an outside sales executive and will split your time between the office and the field. In the office, you’ll work with internal resources to accurately quote work, develop proposals, and communicate with customers by phone and email. Outside the office, you’ll meet customers face-to-face, build rapport, and survey life safety equipment to effectively quote and sell contracts.
Responsibilities
- Work with customers to build long-standing relationships.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Operations, to ensure customers receive our unique experience.
- Act as the customer’s advocate and primary point of contact for questions and requests, connecting them with the right team members as needed.
- Review past inspection reports to accurately determine system deficiencies and work with customers to quote and service the system.
- Perform administrative duties such as writing and sending contract renewals, filling out proposals and forms (about 70% of your time).
- Spend the remaining 30% of your time meeting customers face-to-face, building rapport, and surveying life safety equipment to quote and sell contracts.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems.
- Formal sales experience that goes beyond retail or hospitality, ideally selling a service.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple quotes, follow-ups, and deadlines.
- Comfortable reading inspection reports and translating findings into clear next steps.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the mindset to learn new tools quickly.
- Willingness to dive into platforms like HubSpot and ServiceTrade and self-teach as needed.
- A genuine people-first approach, able to build trust with customers and internal teams.
- Persistence, resilience, and comfort having direct, honest conversations when decisions need to be made.
What Will Make You Stand Out?
- Experience in life safety, fire protection, or another building services or route-based service business.
- A track record of turning inspection findings into signed contracts and completed work.
- Prior experience using HubSpot, ServiceTrade, or similar CRM and service management tools.
- Experience partnering directly with outside sales, operations, and service teams to support shared revenue goals.
- Familiarity with NFPA standards or local code requirements related to fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
