Work term: January 11 – May 14, 2027 (40 hours / week, on-site)
About the role
The associate will support the geometrical, functional, and buildability validation of current and future BMW vehicles. This position provides hands-on experience with vehicles through function and quality validation and testing, while learning the value of customer-relevant topics, targets, the process partner network, and the role of the vehicle validation department in BMW production.
Responsibilities
- Support specialists with root-cause analysis (RCA) and solution development.
- Independently complete analysis and quantitative/subjective evaluations.
- Assist in launching new Plant Spartanburg vehicles and optimizing integration processes.
- Gain in-depth knowledge and experience in new vehicle development and validation.
- Implement the problem-solving process for vehicle defects to improve overall quality.
- Understand how vehicle validation and integration integrate into Plant Spartanburg and the BMW Group.
- Learn the BMW defect severity rating scale and customer expectations.
- Work with total vehicles and part sub-assemblies to gain technical experience.
- Understand the standard vehicle validation process.
- Develop communication skills and experience working with teams.
- Demonstrate leadership through defect analysis and topic handshakes.
- Use specialized analysis equipment and tools.
- Plan, prioritize, and effectively manage tasks.
Requirements
- Enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
- Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
- Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
- Must be an enrolled student during all three rotations.
- Must pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
Qualifications
- Preferred majors: Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience.
- Hands-on experience with vehicles or part sub-assemblies.
- Strong communication and time/task management skills.
- Leadership experience.
