System Engineer, Level IV
Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is a premier government contractor providing staff augmentation to the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Employees take day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff while receiving pay, benefits, and HR support from AIS.
About the role
This position supports new machining center installations and existing machining production operations through configuration management, paperwork, troubleshooting, and maintenance. A machining background is required. The expected work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 40 hours per week with potential for occasional overtime.
Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting and improvement activities on machining systems and equipment.
- Resolve technical system and equipment issues in cooperation with other disciplines.
- Apply expertise in Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for nuclear-regulated facilities.
- Interface effectively with clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
- Work in a production environment; Integrated Safety Management experience is a plus.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and ability to meet pre-employment requirements, including physicals, drug screen, and background investigation for DOE clearance.
- ABET-accredited BS in Engineering plus 10+ years of relevant experience, or MS in Engineering plus 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Machining experience required; mechanical and electrical systems experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable.

- Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required.
- Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing designated position; ongoing random drug testing required.
This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Selected applicants may receive an offer but cannot begin work until funding is confirmed.
