System Engineer
Position Summary
Base-2 Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer who analyzes user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications. The Systems Engineer analyzes system requirements and leads design and development activities, provides technical leadership for integration of requirements, design, and technology, and incorporates new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations. The role includes developing technical documentation, system architecture, and system design documentation, guiding system development and implementation planning, and interacting with the Government regarding technical considerations and associated issues. The Systems Engineer holds ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables in the Systems Engineering area of responsibility and communicates with program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications.
- Lead design and development activities based on system requirements.
- Guide users in formulating requirements, advise alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies.
- Provide technical leadership for integration of requirements, design, and technology.
- Incorporate new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations.
- Develop technical documentation, system architecture, and system design documentation.
- Guide system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans.
- Interact with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and associated problems, issues, or conflicts.
- Maintain ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with Systems Engineering.
- Communicate with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.
- Contribute to development of systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
- Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure delivery of production systems compatible with defined system architectures such as DoDAF and SOA.
- Assist with development and allocation of system and functional requirements to hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.
- Coordinate resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews requiring cross-discipline coordination.
- Participate in Integrated Product Teams to design new capabilities based on development and operational considerations.
- Participate in interface definition, design, and configuration changes throughout the system life cycle.
- Allocate real-time process budgets and error budgets to systems and subsystem components.
- Derive stakeholder needs and lower-level requirements ensuring completeness, correctness, uniqueness, clarity, realizability, and verifiability.
- Generate alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions.
- Establish and gain approval of system or component definitions providing common reference points for hardware and software developers.
- Define methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verification of systems, subsystems, and work products against requirements.
- Develop system design solutions satisfying system requirements and functional analysis.
- Develop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services and Security Mechanism Technology.
- Review and provide input to program and contract work breakdown structures, work packages, and integrated master plans.
Required Qualifications
- Seven (7) years' experience as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Five (5) years of additional Systems Engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- Proficient in analyzing complex data sets to inform business decisions and drive results.
- Experienced with JIRA for project management and Confluence for team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Willing and able to take on high-visibility tasks and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledgeable in Agile development methodologies, focusing on iterative and incremental delivery.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex ideas and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Education and Experience Equivalency
- Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 7 years as a Systems Engineer.
- No bachelor's degree with 12 years as a Systems Engineer (7 years plus 5 additional years substituting for degree).
