System and Flight Test Engineer

About the role

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. This position is for a System Development & Test (SD&T) Engineer supporting the MQ-1C Gray Eagle and Mojave STOL programs. Under general direction, you will apply innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems in lab, ground, and flight testing of new and emerging technologies. This role offers hands-on access to industry-leading aircraft and ground control stations in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform Test & Evaluation (T&E) activities on Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) and Ground Control Element (GCE) programs.
• Work as part of a team to complete test and evaluation of small and large-scale programs, determining and developing approaches to test and integrate new capabilities and functionality.
• Conduct system-level Qualification, Verification, and Validation Testing of hardware and software, with emphasis on deriving and tracking test requirements.
• Support integration activities for new and emerging technologies and capabilities.
• Generate system-level Test Plans and Procedures.
• Conduct Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Ground, and Flight testing.
• Provide accurate and detailed reports of findings and results.
• Support test plan working groups, technical reviews, and safety reviews.
• Collaborate with systems, project, and software engineering on all associated documentation.
• Act as test director for ground and flight tests, including providing direction/leadership to ground and flight crews, ensuring safe and efficient test execution, and representing GA-ASI to customer entities.
• Communicate clearly in writing and verbally during all phases of flight test programs, including test plans, ground and flight test procedures/cards, test observations, issues, and test reports.
• Make technical presentations to project staff as required.
• Observe all laws, regulations, and applicable obligations wherever business is conducted on behalf of the company.
• Work safely in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
• Up to 25% travel is required.
• Able to work extended hours as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
• Two or more years of engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or a recent graduate with a Master’s degree. Equivalent engineering experience may substitute for education.
• Previous flight test engineering experience with qualification to perform tests for a military organization, including prior Department of Defense (DoD) Developmental Test (DT) or Operational Test (OT) experience, is highly desired.
• Experience as a test conductor, test director, or test pilot/navigator for a Combined Test Force (CTF) or Integrated Test Force (ITF) is desired.
• Understanding of engineering concepts and principles, with experience demonstrating broad application of those concepts and expanding knowledge in related technical specialties.
• Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, performing complex tasks in one or more engineering areas.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.

Pay

Salary range: $68,770 – $116,193
