Principal Accountabilities

  • Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
  • Educate students on the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
  • Manage the classroom environment effectively.
  • Instruct students clearly on learning goals and use appropriate techniques.
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including technology, to enhance student learning and confidence.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
  • Mentor students with special needs, 504 plans, and second language learners.
  • Prepare students for MCAS.
  • Collaborate with Special Education and English Language Learner specialists to meet the specific needs of particular students.
  • Participate in school-wide professional development and seek continual feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Chemistry; valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR Grade-level appropriate ESL License; meet all state and federal guidelines for full licensure and high qualification.
  • Experience: Experience in urban, high-poverty, and/or turnaround schools; major/minor in specific teaching content area; additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL); demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies; bilingual language proficiency (Spanish/English) preferred.
