Swim Instructor - Portland Maine

About the role

This position will work under the direction of the Program Director to develop and instruct safe, enriching and effective youth and family swim programs that meet the needs of participants and the community.

Responsibilities

• Develops and instructs safe, enriching and effective youth and family swim programs.
• Provides quality and timely guidance, instruction and support to all members through proper instruction in group settings.
• Educates adult members on current relevant principles, practices and research, and healthy lifestyle information as relevant to child’s swim class, or child, as interested.
• Supports people with unique experiences or points of view to share their perspectives.
• Teaches swim lessons, assists with special Y activities and events, and other duties as needed.
• Maintains a professional and clean environment, including equipment and surrounding work areas.
• Ensures all equipment is in working order and, if applicable, maintains records are properly documented; reports any concerns to supervisor.
• Provides rapid and timely response to all accidents, situations, incidents and emergencies appropriately, calmly and professionally using proper techniques and completes incident reports as needed.
• Promotes the Y's mission and impact by advocating for the Y and supporting philanthropy.
• Maintains accurate and consistent data tracking and documentation, as required.

Requirements

• 16 years of age or older.
• Experience working with youth, preferred.
• Certifications including Professional Rescuer, CPR/AED/Basic First Aid, Emergency O2.
• Successful completion of Principles of Youth Development, Youth Swim Lesson V-6 prerequisites and Swim Instructor class.
• (Required prior to working shifts as a swim instructor)
• Redwoods Child Safety Training (or within 30 days of hire).
• Detail oriented; extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.
• Ability to travel locally.

USD $16.75 - USD $17.25 /Hr.
