About the role
Instructs swimming and water safety skills for children and adults according to City of Ann Arbor standards. Responsible for the supervision of structured class activities for a small group of students or for individual private lessons. Will routinely act as a lead instructor for a particular pool and may assist with the organization and implementation of instructional swim programs at multiple pools, including program registration procedures, student skill assessment, training and supervision of other swim instructors, and program evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Teach swimming and water safety skills to groups and individuals
- Supervise structured class activities for small groups or private lessons
- Act as lead instructor for a pool location
- Assist with organization and implementation of instructional swim programs at multiple pools
- Handle program registration procedures and student skill assessments
- Train and supervise other swim instructors
- Participate in program evaluation
Requirements
- If hired, must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by start date or have an approved medical/religious exemption
- At least two years of swim instruction experience
- One year of swim program administration experience
- Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment (free classes provided for Parks employees; certification must be from an organization approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division)
- Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification by start of employment
- Must hold current Water Safety Instructor certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the administration and organization of instructional swim programs
Physical Requirements
May exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
