About the Role

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Instructor is responsible for providing private and group swim instruction to clients; maintaining a safe and effective learning environment while focusing on the fulfillment of clients' swimming goals; achieving personal revenue goals; and providing the best customer service and hospitality to members and guests.

Responsibilities

• Provide private and group swim instruction, offering specific and corrective feedback to each client.
• Design and deliver effective and rewarding swim sessions and workouts.
• Conduct swim evaluations to help parents decide on the best program for their child and improve client retention.
• Maintain accurate, current records of all clients' progress and follow progression guidelines.
• Enforce all pool rules, aquatics center, and club policies.
• Maintain a consistent work schedule and arrive punctually for sessions.
• Provide excellent communication with parents, members, and staff.
• Track attendance of clients' sessions and maintain timely records in required systems.
• Actively participate in events, programs, meetings, and training, including in-service training.
• Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatics center.
• Represent the club professionally through image, dress, communication, and follow-through.
• Promote the company's safety goals and comply with all policies and procedures.
• Support corporate objectives, participate in improvement initiatives, and prioritize professional development.
• Assist with special club projects, events, and promotions.

Lifeguard Duties (if applicable)

• Supervise swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.
• Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards and rescue persons in distress.
• Provide rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid when necessary.
• Report accidents, rescues, or problems to the Aquatics Director.
• Report equipment in need of repair and answer inquiries about pool use and services.
• Direct suggestions from participants to the Aquatics Director or Club Management.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
• Be available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Maintain punctuality for shifts and rotations, dressed in uniform with required safety equipment.
• Check and maintain the contents of your First Aid pack daily.
• Help keep the pool deck clean, safe, and organized.
• Follow all safety procedures and provide high-quality customer service.

Requirements

• Current Lifeguard certification required.
• WSI certification or equivalent preferred.
• Understanding of current best practices in learn-to-swim skills, competitive swim techniques, and childhood development.
• Experience teaching swim lessons for all ages.
• Knowledge of sales and marketing principles, including strategy, tactics, and techniques.
• Ability to anticipate problems and apply deductive reasoning to identify solutions.
• Strong oral comprehension and expression to communicate ideas effectively.
• Proficiency in maintaining computer records using Word, Excel, and other required software.

Instructor Tiers

• Master Swim Instructor: Minimum of 60 lessons per month (average of 6 months).
• Elite Swim Instructor: 4+ years of teaching experience preferred; minimum of 80 lessons per month (average of 6 months).
• Ultimate Swim Instructor: 6+ years of teaching experience preferred; minimum of 100 lessons per month (average of 6 months).

Working Conditions

• Work is typically performed outdoors in varying and occasionally extreme (hot) weather conditions.
• Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
• Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to adjust to a frequently changing work environment.
• Daily public contact, including dealing with unpleasant or angry individuals and problem-solving difficult situations.
• Frequent use of hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Occasional sitting for extended periods and regular walking around the facility.
• Must be able to talk, hear, and move up to 10 pounds frequently; ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds in emergencies.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Estimated base pay range: $17.75 - $45.00 per hour.
