About the Role

Suzanne Eldridge serves as the Middle School Choral and Drama Director and PK-12 Performing Arts Coordinator. Her passion for the performing arts stems from a transformative experience in her own education, where teachers inspired confidence and hard work, shaping her desire to change lives through the arts.

Memorable Moments

One standout moment occurred during a trip to Disney World with the McDonogh Singers. A student, who was the soloist for the next day’s performance, lost her voice. With encouragement and adjustments to her part, she delivered a powerful performance that brought the house down. This student later became a Stewart recitalist and now sings with a top college choir.

Engaging Students

Teaching middle school music presents unique challenges, including navigating puberty and low confidence. To engage students, classes begin with breathing exercises to refocus and connect. Rehearsals focus on accessible, meaningful music, while short, fun lessons make learning music-reading skills enjoyable. Classes end with ensemble-building games like Captain’s Coming or Popcorn to foster joy and camaraderie.

Interests and Hobbies

Beyond teaching, Suzanne loves performing in shows such as Mary Poppins, Sister Act, Hello, Dolly!, and Hairspray!. Performing allows her to build empathy, bring joy, and educate others while doing what she loves.

Favorite Place on Campus

The chapel and its surrounding circular path hold special meaning. For years, Suzanne and her mentor, Nancy McFadden, walked this path, dreaming of the future. A memorable moment occurred when the concert choir spontaneously sang “Hallelujah” during one of their walks, solidifying this spot as her favorite. She later painted it for Nancy as a retirement keepsake.
