Sustainability Student Worker - Functional - UNC-Wilmington

About the role

UNCW Dining Sustainability is seeking student interns to serve as Sustainability Ambassadors for the Fall 2025 semester. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in hands-on sustainability initiatives within campus dining and gain experiential knowledge in food service sustainability. Our programs include multi-stream waste diversion, microgreens and shoots, aquaponics, and environmental certifications and grants, and sustainability education initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Maintain microgreens and shoots (planting, watering, harvesting)
• Monitor aquaponics system (water quality testing)
• Assist with sustainability outreach events (setup, breakdown, student engagement)
• Support waste-related initiatives
• Generate social media content
• Perform general office assistance and research

Qualifications

• Self-motivated, flexible, and quick to learn
• Currently enrolled at UNCW
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Interest and/or experience in sustainability, food service, or food systems
• Comfortable speaking with peers and working in group settings

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
