About the role
As the Sustainability Forester at Drax, you will lead local biomass sustainability compliance for Drax US pellet plants. You will support the Sustainability Manager in overseeing in-woods sustainability practices and ensuring compliance with chain-of-custody procedures, fibre sourcing standards, and SBP certifications.
Responsibilities
- Audit of in-woods field inspections
- Conduct fiber source desk reviews to assure compliance with certifications
- Manage the system used to identify, mitigate, and/or enhance habitat conditions for species and ecosystems of concern
- Local oversight to ensure fiber sourcing program adheres to relevant state water quality Best Management Practices (BMPs), certification requirements, and company policies
- Engage with the forest industry, serving as point person on SFI Implementation Committees and collaborating with local conservation partners
- Facilitate the review of in-woods and residual supplier questionnaires to ensure sustainability expectations are aligned between Drax and its feedstock suppliers
- Serve as the sustainability point of contact for the Drax local fibre procurement teams
- Support Sustainability Manager in all activities related to maintenance of the certification program
- Aid in providing information for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and annual reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry or a related field in Natural Resources
- Applied knowledge of forest management, forest sourcing, or natural resource management
- Experience with forest certification is preferred
- Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel
- Experience with 3Log and/or other data management systems is preferred
- Familiarity with ArcGIS is preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Collaborative abilities are necessary
