Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Perform topographic surveys, boundary surveys, control surveys, and construction staking on transportation and public works projects.
- Operate and maintain survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Operate and process data from UAV/drone-based survey platforms including LiDAR and photogrammetric systems.
- Process field survey data using industry-standard software; prepare survey deliverables including point files, surface models, DTMs, and CAD drawings.
- Provide construction staking and grade verification to support contractor field operations.
- Perform as-built and quantity surveys to support progress payment verification and project closeout.
- Cook up with project managers, design engineers, and contractors to ensure survey deliverables meet project requirements and agency standards.
- Maintain survey equipment calibration records and ensure instruments are properly maintained.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and Cal/OSHA requirements on active construction sites.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in land surveying on transportation or public works projects.
- Proficiency with robotic total stations, GNSS/RTK systems, and modern data collectors.
- Experience with UAV/drone surveying platforms and LiDAR data processing preferred.
- Proficiency with survey and CAD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar).
- Experience with survey data processing platforms such as Propeller Aero is a plus.
- Knowledge of Caltrans survey standards and procedures.
- LSIT or PLS license preferred; candidates on the California licensure track are encouraged to apply.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in field conditions.
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
