About the Role
Over 10-12 weeks, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, site drainage and grading design, and learning the Civil Engineering trade. This internship offers hands-on project experience while supporting project documentation, site observations, and cross-functional collaboration to help meet project goals and client expectations. You will gain exposure to work across survey, tribal, and public works markets.
- Assist with project design work for discipline systems in accordance with code and IMEG standards
- Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources for project needs
- Support client communication, project documentation, and permanent record files
- Coordinate design and schedule needs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier partners
- Document design decisions, meetings, client instructions, and project progress
- Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
- Help prepare and issue addendum information
- Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement
Requirements
- Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
- May be required to assist with field duties like surveying and materials testing
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software, and BIM
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
- Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

Pay
State of Minnesota Pay Range: $22-24 per hour. The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
Schedule
- Full-time in office, 10-12 week summer program
- Program Length: 10-12 weeks
