Survey Technician - Intern
About the role
Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) is seeking a field survey technician intern to join their dynamic team. This role involves performing instrument person duties on a field survey crew, working on a variety of projects including land development, transportation, government, architecture, environmental, and infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Operate robotic total stations, GNSS rovers, electronic field controllers (data collectors), levels, and various hand tools
- Perform computations
- Locate topographic features for mapping and contours
- Keep detailed field notes and sketches
- Maintain and adjust survey equipment
- Operate 3D terrestrial scanners
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required
- High School Diploma or State Equivalent certification required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Ability to obtain security clearance
- Physically able to carry equipment and supplies over uneven terrain
- Must be able to accommodate occasional overnight travel, typically on a weekly basis or less
Qualifications
- Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field
- Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain
- Moving around active project sites
- Bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
- Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods
- Lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carting objects up to 50 lbs. distances up to a 1/2 mile
- Driving to and from project sites, which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 100 miles round trip
Skills
- Knowledge of survey instruments and equipment
- Proficiency in data collection and computation
- Ability to maintain and adjust survey equipment
- Basic understanding of 3D terrestrial scanning
Benefits
Success in this position may present opportunities within the WRA Survey Department when vacancies or department growth occur. Possible training opportunities include operating robotic total stations, GNSS survey equipment, and a Carlson Data Collector.
Pay
The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $15.00 - $21.00.
Schedule
Typically, the position involves working on-site at project sites, which may require occasional overnight travel.
