About the role
Stantec is seeking a Land Surveyor to join the Survey & Mapping team in Sarasota, Florida. This role involves managing the accuracy of field survey data, resolving property boundaries and rights of way, reviewing survey technician’s work, and serving as project manager on various sized survey projects. Other responsibilities include assisting in crew scheduling, preparing crews for field work, assisting with construction staking calculations and reports, and ensuring equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Manage the accuracy of field survey data, including measurements and calculations, analysis, and final map checking.
- Abstract title data and research record drawings.
- Sign and seal survey documents.
- Monitor projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with clients on technical matters.
- Manage the activities of field crews, including providing job assignments, information, direction, and daily checking of work product.
- Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.
- Solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Use broad technical knowledge to identify hazardous situations and direct safety procedures and company standards.
- Absorb and interpret local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in survey processing software.
- A well-developed understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of survey work.
- A working knowledge of relevant technical software including AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- A working knowledge of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations.
- Strong math skills, including algebra and trigonometry.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Geomatics, Surveying, or related field.
- Licensed by state in Land Surveying or equivalent licensure.
- Minimum of 10 years of Land Survey experience.
