Survey Party Chief
About the role
The purpose of the Survey Party Chief is to perform surveys for public and private clients, including planning field work methods, recording data for design and land title purposes, and supervising the survey crew. The Party Chief has responsibility for work results that are critical for engineering design and construction phase services. With limited supervision, proceeds on own initiative in accordance with company standards.
Responsibilities
- Reviews job specifications and plans fieldwork methods.
- Directs and conducts field surveys.
- Makes accurate measurements and provides data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation or dimension of land and/or associated features.
- Affords assistance in the determination of property boundaries.
- Accurately calculates and records field data to document work performed.
- Supervises survey field crew, assigns work, ensures completion dates and budgets are met, and ensures consistent application of firm operating standards and safety practices.
- Operates and maintains instruments and measuring devices needed to complete various types of survey work assignments, including, but not limited to, levels, robotic total stations, GPS equipment and data collectors.
- Transfers survey data to the proper files in the computer network and is able to acquire data for field use.
- Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of company vehicle and equipment.
- Works under the direction of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor or Survey Coordinator and follows standard procedures and verbal or written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Drives company or personal vehicle to reach jobsites.
- Trains survey crew members in day-to-day activities and company procedures.
Requirements
Excellent cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team, and training, coordinating, and leading others in accomplishing work activities.
Advanced knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, etc.), CADD software and other engineering automation tools.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in surveying, civil engineering, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in surveying, preferably in a professional setting.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.
Skills
Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, etc.), CADD software and other engineering automation tools.
