Survey Party Chief
About the role
AI Engineers, Inc. (AIE) is seeking a Survey Party Chief to join our survey team based in Middletown, CT, supporting surrounding areas. This is an immediate opening for a highly-organized land survey professional with leadership experience in various survey tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform surveys of state, municipal and private infrastructure such as building and facility sites, open land, development sites, roadways, bridges, streetscapes, residential and commercial developments, and construction sites in urban and suburban areas
- Work well in a team setting as well as independently when using robotic instruments and/or GPS on assignments
- Anticipate field and office challenges by thinking several steps ahead and addressing issues before they affect schedule or quality
- Reviews project information with a forward-looking mindset, identifying missing data, conflicts, or future survey requirements
- Demonstrates strong critical-thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate project needs, risks, and questions before they arise
- Collections, verifies, and documents survey data to support accurate mapping, plans, and project deliverables
- Communicates field findings, potential issues, and follow-up needs clearly to project managers, engineers, and other team members
- Performs work in accordance with established survey procedures, safety requirements, and applicable standards
- Utilizes survey technology and software to support efficient data collection, processing, and coordination between field and office teams
Requirements/Qualifications
- 5+ years of Survey experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license with a clean driving record
- AutoCAD drawing experience strongly preferred
- Certified Survey Technician level III or above preferred
- Experience with Robotic Total Station, or similar, is preferred
- Experience in boundary and topographic surveys, bridge and road surveys, construction surveying for layout & contractor checks, or related strongly preferred
Skills & Abilities
- A self-starter with the ability to lead survey crew teams and manage multiple and concurrent projects/assignments
- Must be proficient and have experience in survey equipment and process as well as development of final mapping, reports, and survey data recording
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Understanding the variety of project delivery methods and direct experience in Design-Build projects
- Ability and willingness to travel to work sites
- Demonstrated problem-solving, negotiations and decision-making skills
- Occasional to moderate travel may be required
