Duties

  • Follow all corporate and job site safety procedures
  • Maintain equipment by cleaning, completing preventative maintenance and performing calibrations
  • Assemble and set-up necessary equipment at project site
  • Coverage field work for a variety of standard types of surveys, under the direction of the Crew Chief
  • Perform survey activities including, but not limited to, leveling, traversing, triangulation, metes and bounds surveys, construction surveys and photo control surveys
  • Perform physical tasks such as: line clearing, pounding stakes, setting monuments, and locating critical underground objects
  • Knowledge of the operation, checking and basic field adjustments on transits, total stations, total electronic stations, data collectors, levels, and tripods
  • Perform lot, area, and intersection (bearing-bearing, distance-distance, bearing-distance) computations
  • Reduce and check field notes for the determination of positions and elevations
  • Interpret control point records and data sheets, as well as locate points in the field
  • Understand basic sources of measurement errors
  • Understand principles of staking and marking
  • Enter field data and produce positional information (i.e., leveling, traversing, stadia, topographic mapping) with hand-held calculator
  • Interpret control point records and data sheets, as well as locate points in the field
  • Understand basic plan reading and preparation (i.e., site plans, boundary plans, highway plans, profile and cross sections, horizontal and vertical curves, pipeline plans, foundation plans, and developing existing and finished contours)
  • Knowledgeable of surveying ethics and technical standards
  • Record field notes legibly and accurately for standard surveying operations
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and other survey staff
  • Strive to make each project profitable

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Additional courses in mathematics and surveying preferred
    • Previous survey or survey-related experience preferred
    • Valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
    • The ability to read, write and perform basic math
    • The ability to communicate with the public
    • The ability to use basic Microsoft Office applications
    • The ability to work in all types of indoor and outdoor environments
