Survey Engineer (CCGT)

Job Summary

The Surveyor Field Engineer provides support as required to the construction team reporting directly to the Project Lead Surveyor. They will perform surveying activities relating to the siteworks, liaise with Field Engineering, and support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed. They will provide technical support to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situations and configurations.

Major Responsibilities

• Aid the Project Lead Surveyor with the oversight of the survey operations and provide technical direction to the direct-hire team.
• Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
• Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications, and appropriate methods of performing survey activities.
• Provide Construction Survey support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision.
• Establish and/or verify and maintain the project’s survey control network.
• Perform verifications of subcontract survey control points and work.
• Perform and/or review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments.
• Perform or oversee the development and management of survey data.
• Perform or oversee the Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.
• Support the administration of the survey work request program.
• Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties.
• Support the implementation of project’s machine control technology.
• Support the implementation of the UAV (Drones) program.
• Support the implementation of the 3D Laser Scanning operations, including reality capture and processing of scan data.
• Create and implement the survey training program.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Engineering/Technical degree and 5-8 years’ experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, involving a mix of field and office duties with modern instruments and software, with at least 3 years supervisorial experience or 9-12 years’ experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying (in lieu of a degree), with at least 5 years’ supervisorial experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills

• Prior siteworks surveying experience.
• Knowledge of construction survey principles.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe work ethic and work environment at all times.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors and survey functional management.
• Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
• Excellent problem-solving ability.
• Demonstrated experience with modern Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels and GNSS survey systems.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations.
• Experience working on multiple work fronts.
• Work under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions.
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Intermediate level use of Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Experience as Pilot of UAV (Drones) preferred.
• Familiarity with heavy equipment Machine Control technology.
