Job Title: Survey DrafterJob Description The Survey Drafter produces accurate CAD drawings for boundary, transmission line right-of-way, and land tie surveys while supporting survey field crews and office personnel. This role focuses on creating and maintaining detailed technical drawings, writing metes and bounds or centerline descriptions, and ensuring all deliverables meet industry and project-specific standards. Responsibilities Perform CAD drafting of boundary, transmission line right-of-way, and land tie surveys in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.Create, update, and revise plan and profile drawings, detail drawings, cover sheets, and other technical drawings for transmission line projects.Write clear and accurate metes and bounds or centerline descriptions for assigned projects.Work closely with the survey team to update, add, and modify drawings based on field readings and survey data.Research existing survey and real estate records to support survey field crews and office personnel.Contact local and state agencies to obtain right-of-way and easement information required for projects.Transmit completed drawings and project documentation to relevant stakeholders in a timely and organized manner.Ensure all drawings comply with applicable industry standards and project-specific requirements.Maintain up-to-date records of all drawings, revisions, and associated documentation.Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, and other team members to verify the accuracy of survey data and design information.Provide occasional field support as needed to confirm the accuracy of survey data and drawings.Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines in all drafting and support activities. Essential Skills Associate degree in drafting or a related technical field.Strong experience using CAD software, particularly AutoCAD.Experience creating drawings for transmission lines, including plan and profile drawings, detail drawings, and cover sheets.Knowledge of survey coordinate systems and the ability to interpret survey data and surveys.Ability to write clear metes and bounds or centerline descriptions.Proficiency in interpreting survey data for use in technical drawing creation.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively with surveyors, engineers, and other team members to verify data accuracy.Experience with drafting and design in areas such as land development, topography, construction, and civil engineering.Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar civil design tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with MicroStation or other CAD platforms in addition to AutoCAD.Background in civil design, civil engineering, or land surveying projects.Familiarity with topographic and land surveying practices.Understanding of right-of-way and easement developments for transmission line projects.Interest in building a long-term career within the utility and transmission line industry.Ability to adapt to project-specific requirements and evolving industry standards. Work Environment The Survey Drafter works in an office-based, collaborative environment supporting transmission line projects and right-of-way or easement developments. The role is fully on-site in a corporate office setting, where the drafter sits within a team of approximately 10–12 employees in a dedicated cubicle space equipped with a personal computer workstation. Daily work involves extensive use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and related CAD tools to produce and update technical drawings. The drafter collaborates closely with surveyors, engineers, and office personnel and may occasionally provide field support to verify the accuracy of survey data and drawings. Adherence to established safety and compliance guidelines is required at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
