About the role
This intermediate-level role involves working outdoors in support of a Land Survey crew. Prior survey experience is a plus, but not required. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with a 6:30am start time. This position includes overtime and travel assignments.
Responsibilities
- Operate robotic, conventional, and GPS survey equipment to collect accurate topographic features and boundary evidence for land development, route, utility, and other surveying projects.
- Absorb and execute written and verbal instructions from the Party Chief and project leadership.
- Safely transport, set up, and maintain tripods, rods, prisms, and other survey equipment.
- Load, unload, and properly store survey tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Clear lines, mark points, drive stakes, and perform stakeout activities as directed.
- Perform field measurements, data logging, and survey tasks with minimal supervision.
- Download, upload, and review survey data to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
- Maintain organized field equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Adhere to Halff's safety standards and field procedures at all times.
- Perform physically demanding fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.
- Travel to project sites, including occasional extended travel assignments.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and accurately support project schedules and deadlines.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a Survey Instrument Operator (boundary, design, topographic, and ALTA surveys).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Able and willing to work Monday through Friday, with a 6:30am start time.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Solid mathematical, problem-solving, and organizational skills applicable to field surveying.
- Experience operating robotic total stations, GPS, and related field equipment.
- Familiarity with topographic, boundary, and construction staking methods.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Manual dexterity to operate instruments, hand tools, stakes, and field documentation.
