Survey Crew Chief

About the role

DRMP's Survey Department in Troutman, North Carolina is hiring an experienced Crew Chief with strong leadership capabilities. As the Survey Crew Chief/Party Chief, you will represent the company in the field, ensuring the crew and equipment are prepared for assignments and that work is performed to company standards with clear, concise results.

Responsibilities

• Lead the field effort for various surveying tasks, including construction, topographic, boundary, right-of-way, control, route/roadway, and NCDOT survey projects
• Assign and monitor work, and provide input for evaluation of field survey crew members
• Instruct and train crew members in survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
• Gather field survey data using conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
• Set up, adjust, and operate robotic surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, to measure distances, elevations, and angles
• Prepare field notes and drawings
• Perform field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines

Requirements

• High School diploma and/or specialized training from a vocational or technical school
• Good written communication and handwriting skills for managing and organizing field notes
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and use computational devices
• Physical ability to carry and lift equipment as needed on the project
• Ability to cut and/or clear brush while establishing survey lines (machete use)
• Knowledge of equipment and ability to set up for various work situations
• Proficiency in using all measuring devices
• Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history
• Ability to travel
